Kalkaji Assembly is one of the hot seats. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi became MLA from this seat in 2020 and is also contesting from this seat in the Delhi elections. Former BJP MP Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress Mahila Congress Chief Alka Lamba are contenders from this seat.
This seat was formed in 1972. The assembly constituency has posh colonies like Maharani Bagh, Kalkaji, New Friends Colony, East of Kailash, Nehru Place, Sukhdev Vihar. On the other hand, residential colonies like Govindpuri, Giri Nagar, Ishwar Nagar, Srinivaspuri, Masihgarh also come under it.

BJP's Purnima Sethi won the Kalkaji assembly seat from Congress's Subhash Chopra in 1993. On 1998, the result was reversed and the seat remained with the Congress for the next three terms. 1998, 2003 and 2008, Congress leader Subhash Chopra was the MLA from this seat all three times.
After this, BJP made a comeback, in 2013 BJP leader Harmeet Singh Kalka defeated AAP's Dharambir Singh. But since 2015, Aam Aadmi Party has occupied the seat. First Avtar Singh defeated BJP's Harmeet Singh Kalka and in 2020 Atishi won this seat.
