Delhi Elections 2025: AAP’s Challenges, BJP’s Revival Hopes

Delhi Elections 2025: AAP is facing a big challenge, BJP hopes that the 27-year-old eclipse will end; Congress hopes for a miracle

After the announcement of the Delhi Elections 2025 dates, the political parties have intensified the game of luring voters. Aam Aadmi Party has announced its candidates on all seats first. BJP and Congress are behind AAP in terms of announcing candidates.

AAP Party in Delhi Elections 2025 : Surrounded by the corruption which it made an issue and raised

AAP, which was born out of the anti-corruption movement, is now itself surrounded by the heat of corruption. In its very first election in 2013, AAP showed its might by winning 28 out of 70 seats with 29.49% vote share.

  • Two years later, in 2015, it won a landslide victory and won 67 seats with 54.34% vote share. BJP got only three seats, Congress could not even open its account.
  • Miracle again in 2020... Although the number of seats decreased marginally to 62. Despite this, the vote share of 53.57% was maintained.
  • The party that once called itself the harbinger of change is now surrounded by corruption allegations. Arvind Kejriwal remained in jail for about six months. Manish Sisodia spent 17 months behind bars.
  • Former minister Satyendra Jain and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh also went to jail. All of them are currently on bail. BJP is the biggest challenge for AAP in the elections.

BJP in Delhi Vidhan Sabha Election: Desperate to taste victory in the capital

  • Apart from Punjab, Delhi is the only place in North India where the BJP has not tasted power in the last two decades. However, it has been successful in maintaining its vote bank.
  • Despite losing since 1998, the vote share has never been less than 32% in six assembly elections.
  • In 2015, even after winning only three seats, the vote share was 32.19%. Five years later, when it won eight seats, the vote share went up to 38.51%.
  • BJP has won all the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi since 2014.
  • Lack of popular face: BJP lost three consecutive elections to Congress in 1998, 2003 and 2008. After this, AAP defeated it in 2013, 2015 and 2020. Like Congress's Sheila Dixit and AAP's Arvind Kejriwal, the lack of a popular face in BJP was a major reason for the defeat. In 2015, the party did bring Kiran Bedi, but there was no miracle.

Congress in Delhi Elections 2025: It has been a period of ups and downs, only 4.26% votes in the last election

Congress has had a long period of ups and downs in Delhi. The party came to power in Delhi in 1998, but could win only one seat out of seven in the Lok Sabha elections. However, in the November 1998 assembly elections, it won 52 seats with 47.76% votes and Sheila Dikshit remained CM for 15 years.

  • In 2013, it was reduced to only eight seats. Sheila Dikshit herself lost to Kejriwal. In the last assembly elections, Congress got only 4.26% votes. 63 out of 66 candidates lost their deposits.
  • No credible face in Delhi, the organization has disintegrated. There is no vote bank either. Party leaders believe that Muslims will prefer AAP. According to them, only AAP can compete with BJP.
  • Congress is in a dilemma. Despite the refusal of alliance, the high command is against targeting Kejriwal. Ajay Maken even had to cancel a press conference against Kejriwal.
