HIGHLIGHTS

  1. Voting in Delhi on February 5 and counting of votes on February 8
  2. After the Lok Sabha, AAP and Congress are in the fray against each other

The Election Commission has announced the election battle of Delhi. Even before this, the electoral battlefield of Delhi had started getting ready. Now it will gain more momentum. This time the electoral scenario of Delhi is also a bit changed as compared to the Lok Sabha. In the Lok Sabha elections, Aam Aadmi Party and Congress contested together against BJP. AAP has fielded candidates in the electoral battlefield

In this election, both the parties are pitted against each other. This has set the stage for a triangular contest in the Delhi Assembly elections. Aam Aadmi Party is in the election fray to gain power for the third consecutive time.

It has announced all its candidates. Congress also has 48 candidates in the fray. BJP is lagging behind in this matter. So far it has been able to announce only 29 candidates.

Who will challenge Kejriwal on New Delhi?

AAP convenor and former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will once again contest from his old seat New Delhi.

To challenge him, Congress has given ticket to former MP Sandeep Dixit, son of former Chief Minister Sheila Dixit and BJP has given ticket to former MP Pravesh Verma, son of former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma. This has made the contest interesting in this area.

Who is contesting against Atishi from Kalkaji?

Chief Minister Atishi is in the fray from Kalkaji Assembly constituency this time too. Congress has given ticket to its National Women's Front President Alka Lamba against her. BJP has fielded former MP Ramesh Bidhuri from here.

Manish Sisodia is contesting from Jangpura this time

Meanwhile, Manish Sisodia has left his seat Patparganj and is contesting from Jangpura this time. To corner him, Congress has fielded former mayor Farhad Suri and BJP has fielded three-time MLA Tarvinder Singh Marwah.

The remaining candidates of Congress and BJP are expected to be announced in the next few days. So far, in ticket distribution, all parties have given priority to leaders coming from other parties.

The first list of BJP candidates has the names of seven leaders who have switched parties. AAP has trusted 11 and Congress has trusted three defectors announced so far.

  • BJP : Pravesh Verma, Ramesh Bidhuri, Tarvinder Singh Marwah, Vijendra Gupta, Kailash Gehlot, Arvinder Singh Lovely
  • Congress : Devendra Yadav, Sandeep Dixit, Alka Lamba, Farhad Suri, Haroon Yusuf

What is the challenge before AAP for the fourth time?

AAP faces the challenge of gaining power for the fourth time. The party emerged in 2012 and won power with the support of Congress by winning 28 seats in the 2013 elections. Arvind Kejriwal became the Chief Minister for the first time.

He resigned after 48 days. After that, he demonstrated his political power by winning 67 out of 70 seats in the year 2015 and 63 seats in the year 2020. Many leaders had to go to jail.

Now all the major leaders have come out of jail and are trying to get power for the third time. With the help of other promises including Rs 2,100 per month for women and free treatment to the older people, AAP has also taken the lead in the election campaign.

BJP is away from power in Delhi since 1998

The Bharatiya Janata Party is away from power in Delhi since 1998. It was defeated by Congress in three elections in a face-to-face fight. In the year 2013, the party remained away from power even after winning 33 seats. Despite winning all the seven Lok Sabha seats in the years 2014 and 2019, the party had to face a big defeat in the two assembly elections held a few months later.

This time BJP has been successful in winning all the seven seats by defeating the alliance of AAP and Congress. Due to this, the party leaders seem hopeful about this election. Recently, a government program of the Prime Minister and his rally after that has infused energy among the workers.

Congress is trying to regain its political ground

Congress is trying to regain its political ground. Bad days of Congress started with the rise of AAP in Delhi. Congress, which was in power in Delhi for 15 consecutive years, was reduced to eight seats in 2013. In the two elections after that, the party could not even open its account.

It is believed that Congress's vote bank has now joined AAP. To get it back, Congress is looking more aggressive this time than in the last two assembly elections.

By fielding Sandeep Dixit against Kejriwal and making sharp statements, they have made their intentions clear. In response to AAP, the party has announced to give Rs 2,500 per month to women.
