šŸ—³ Why are Panchayat elections important?

Panchayati elections are the basic foundation of the democratic structure of rural India. These elections not only speed up development work, but also give the local people the right to play their part. Panchayat representatives play an important role in the following areas:

  • Water supply and irrigation

  • Primary education

  • Health services

  • Sanitation and waste management

Three structures of Panchayati Raj:

  • Zilla Parishad (ZP): The highest body at the district level

  • Anchalik Panchayat (AP): The administrative unit at the block level

  • Gram Panchayat (GP): The nearest body functioning at the village level
